Imagine a city where only its skyscrapers peek above the trees—a city whose communities live vibrantly below the canopy. Imagine a city where every street is immersed in the forest—a city whose stress is cured by the birds' chorus. Imagine if a city plagued by urban sprawl became the new paradigm for a greener world for all. Imagine if we didn't have to imagine. Now wouldn't that be something special?
Imagine if we didn't have to imagine.
At Livelihood, we envision a world where city and nature coexist as one. We believe that this vision will become our reality, and it drives us every day to plant one tree in an American city for every product sold.
The United Nations is projecting 68% of the world's population to be living in cities by 2050. In the United States, 83% of the population already lives in metropolitan areas. The current path of urbanization, where city and nature are seen as separate things, cannot continue. Suppose we do not make nature a part of our urban fabric and our cities a part of nature's wild. In that case, we will face an economic, societal, health, and environmental crisis, many of which we are unfortunately experiencing today.
We seek to do our part in preventing that—this is why we focus our attention on cities. Nature and trees provide many benefits: decrease stress and anxiety, regulate summer and winter temperatures, and reduce flooding and stormwater runoff. Trees are also proven to increase physical activity, economic prosperity, and happiness. Our purpose is to improve the quality of life for all by bringing nature back directly into our homes and communities.

As both a clothing brand and urban environmental movement, we understand our unique responsibility to lead the way to more sustainable and ethical clothing practices. That is why we only use natural and organic materials, produce in small batches, and never throw away unsold products.
In addition, we seek to tackle consumerism head-on; that is why we provide the ability to plant a tree without the purchase of a product. We also believe that consumers have the right to shop at fair margins year-round, and we encourage them to shop sustainably, budgeting the amount of money they spend on clothes at a given time. We are not a discount-driven brand and do not participate in Black Friday or Cyber Monday as these events perpetuate consumerism. At Livelihood, we seek to provide people the ability to afford sustainable clothes and make a difference in their community.

Although Livelihood needs to generate revenue to further its mission, we do not exist for profits; we never have. We choose to plant trees in cities not because it is good for our bottom line but to benefit our environment, cities, and communities.
